About the Award

The Hamilton Gallery of Distinction was founded by Jack Pelech and Eunice Swanborough in 1984 to permanently recognize outstanding Hamilton residents, past and present, who have made the community a better place. To date, 227 people have been honoured.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary in 2009, a Gallery of Distinction wall was installed on the 3rd Floor of Central Library. The same year, a new award was also commissioned. Artist Kelley Lowe created the glass sculpture representing Cootes Paradise, Lake Ontario and the High-Level Bridge.
