Envisioning the New Discovery Centre

West Harbour Discovery Centre

Celebrate the New West Harbour Branch

Saturday August 15: 1pm-4pm

The Indigenous Opening Ceremony of the temporary West Harbour Branch brings together members from neighbouring First Nations and Hamilton's urban Indigenous community to share teachings, songs, drumming, dance and more. Learn More.

Hamilton Public Library (HPL), in partnership with the City of Hamilton’s Indigenous Relations Division and Lord Cultural Resources, is exploring the long-term redevelopment of the former Canadian Marine Discovery Centre as a new library branch, Indigenous gathering space, cultural heritage exhibition space, café and visitor destination.

As this work continues, HPL will open a small, temporary West Harbour Branch at the site in summer 2026, activating the waterfront with library services, programs and Indigenous-focused collections while the long-term vision is developed.
