Renovations are currently underway for the 2nd floor Central Children's Area. Programs are still being offered as scheduled and there is a temporary pop-up Children’s Area on the northeast side of the 2nd floor (near the Piano Room), including access to collections and train tables. As of Monday, March 2, Sherwood Branch's 2nd floor is closed due to renovations. Makerspace, Children and Teen's collection are temporarily available on the 1st floor. Code Club Volunteers
Program Overview
Volunteers with this program support children as they explore basic coding concepts in a fun, hands-on, group setting. Code Club programs may include activities such as block-based coding, simple game design, robotics, or introductory programming tools. Programs run July to August at designated library branches. Limited positions available.
Qualifications
- 14-18 years of age
- Interest in technology, coding or computer science
- Good communication skills
- Reliable, patient and positive
- Able to commit to the dates and times Code Club is running
- Experience working with children is an asset
Responsibilities
- Attend required training sessions
- Support participants as they complete coding activities
- Encourage creativity, problem-solving and teamwork
- Provide positive feedback and encouragement in a welcoming environment
